En la obra se manifiesta una inocente influencia del pintor Gustav Klimt por los dorados y decorados de la mujer. La virgen es realmente una "femme fatal" que no presta atención por el artista. En realidad se trata de una imagen desvirtuada de una chica con la que el artista mantuvo una breve relación. Este cuadro marcará las líneas de los futuros retratos en los que la mano y las flores aparecerán recurrentemente.
